This site is for Jay Paul Deratany

Lets not forget Bloggo either... he's been implicated in some pretty serious stuff too... and regardless, he runs the state like most of the other people on the road drive their cars- distracted, recklessly, aimlessly.

I'm relatively new to Illinois (3 year resident) but it just stuns me that the people of this state and especially this city put up with this!

Yeah, Bla-goy-a-bitch is getting on my last f'n nerve!!!

Okay, Betty! The link is now in the primary post and it works. XOXO

I was ready to write Blagobitch off as soon as he came out against gay marriage...when it really wasn't even a threat here in Illinois. He's not done anything to endear me since, so if the Republcians can actually have someone run for governor who isn't a ranting, anti-gay sociopath, I might vote for him/her...otherwise, I just won't vote for governor at all.

Thanks, Snark!!!!

Jay is kinda cute, too. Heh-heh.

Funny you should say that, Snark...I believe Jay is 'family' also.

I think Jay fever is spreading ... I got this eMail from another associate at work today ... he sent it out to every agent in our office!

The Chicago Tribune and progressive Democrats agree: "Democrats have a smart alternative to Berrios: Chicago attorney Jay Paul Deratany."

-Chicago Tribune, 1/20/08

On February 5th, you can vote for Jay Paul Deratany
(punch 67).

Jay is running against the Cook County Machine for a seat on the Board of Review-- the governmental body responsible for hearing our property tax appeals.

The incumbent, Joseph Berrios, is a poster boy for corrupt and mismanaged government that favors political insiders over the interests of average citizens. For 20 years on the Board of Review, Berrios has handed out millions in tax relief to big commercial real estate interests represented by lawyers and law firms that donate to his political fund.

To make matters worse, Berrios is the Chairman of the same Cook County Democratic Party that engineered the appointment of Todd Stroger as County Board President. Since then, Stroger has loaded the payroll with friends and family while asking $900 million in new taxes.

Like us, Jay is tired of the patronage and corruption that has lead to higher property taxes. As a private attorney for twenty years, Jay has taken on special interests on behalf of average citizens, doing volunteer work for children, residents of public housing, and those with HIV/AIDS.

Jay is committed to making sure all homeowners have the chance to be heard by a panel if impartial judges. When Jay is elected, appeals will be decided strictly on the merits—not based on political contributions.

On February 5th, we can send a message to Todd Stroger and start bringing change to Cook County government. I hope you will join me in supporting Jay Paul Deratany for the Board of Review.

Is this a "real" election or is he in the primary?

I'm still gonna vote in the GOP primary... partly because I love to see the faces of the election workers when someone asks for a Republican ballot period, but especially when I walk in all glammed/vamped out, and partly because I want to vote for either Rudy or Mac, which ever one wins Florida, as I definitely don't want to see Mittsy or the Huckster get the GOP nod, and much as I love Obama for running, love his attempts appeal to the good angels in us... he's about as far from being a Jeffersonian liberal as I am from being a sports fan.

Even so, I'm getting more and more inclined to vote for him if the GOP does nominate someone other than Mac or Rudy. BO's the closest to a statesman the Dems have run since... I don't know when... and a leader and statesman who challenges us to rise to the highest common denominator- even one with whom I disagree on policy issues- is far preferable to me than a political hack.

I'm actually voting in the GOP primary too...I want to make sure Mittens doesn't take Illinois, if I can help it. Besides, I'm confident Obama will take Illinois anyway.

Listig said...

If he doesn't win IL, it'll be because of the "dead vote."

SnarkAngel said...

Yeah, GOP Primary for me, too. It's absolutely necessary.

Boston_Betty said...

Ooops! I can't vote Republican or I wouldn't be able to vote for Jay Paul, so I'll just have to hope Illinois Republicans are smart enough not to vote for Flippity Romney.

By the way, after doing some work at Jay Paul's campaign HQ yesterdau afternoon, I asked him if he'd stop by the Anvil last night on his way to a fund raiser and he did. He spoke to quite a few people at the bar and stopped by Gino's and chatted with Peggy a bit. He is a really nice, personable guy...and even cuter in person!

Well, I'll vote for him if he makes past round one, but I still have the dream that the GOP might wake up from its tax/spend/regulate stupor and become a place where Classic Jeffersonian Liberals can call home. ... As long as the 700 club types are the tail which wags the elephant, it won't ever totally be that way, but I remember a time when it was almost so... and I'd love to see one or the other party actually treat us like adults and let us spend our money as we see fit instead of acting like elected Mary Poppins and practicing legalized larceny (which is to say, confiscatory taxation.)

Betty, you cover the Jay front. I'll vote in the Repub primary ...
