Nostalgia

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, September 12, 1960:

I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute--where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act, and no Protestant minister would tell his parishoners for whom to vote--where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference--and where no man is denied public office merely because his religion differs from the President who might appoint him or the people who might elect him.

Willard Mitt Romney, December 6, 2007:

Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom. Freedom opens the windows of the soul so that man can discover his most profound beliefs and commune with God. Freedom and religion endure together, or perish alone.
...
But in recent years, the notion of the separation of church and state has been taken by some well beyond its original meaning. They seek to remove from the public domain any acknowledgment of God. Religion is seen as merely a private affair with no place in public life. It is as if they are intent on establishing a new religion in America – the religion of secularism. They are wrong.
Gag, Sigh...

Britain is supposed to be a Christian country where religious assemblies take place in every state school every day. Not only do most schools do no such thing - thus breaking the law - they often actively discourage nativity plays and Christmas decorations so as not to upset other religions. None of whom care.Christian worship os at a very low ebb.

Yet the US, a supposedly secular society, seems to be going in the opposite direction. It was one thing I was sure you'd all got right, now who knows what will happen?

You are right, Val. Between the ridiculous right-wing Christians and the equallly retarded ultra-liberals who bend over and get f*&#ed in the arse with a tire iron to keep from offending our "Muslim brothers and sisters," our "secular" has become "sickular." The masses of asses here in the U.S. remain clueless sheep. Be afraid . . . be VERY afraid . . .
