In case any of you were wondering why this song and region meant anything to me, I lived in Israel for the summer of 1987 and although I was on an archaeoligical dig, Tel Miqne Ekron, and nowhere near an Army base, you should understand that EVERYONE serves in the Israeli armed forces as a citizen of Israel, so I knew a lot of young people who donned their uniforms and reported for duty.

Bob and I had the opportunity to go to Israel again last October and experience life in a country where everyone, unlike ours where only 2% does, serves in the military. I think if 95% of our citizens had to serve in Iraq, you would have seen that nasty, little obscene mess have ended in the last election cycle, if not before!Unlike our country, however, gays and lesbians are welcomed into the Israeli military, though the old hierarchy of prejudice still exists, inasmuch many promising Israeli officers--fulltime military--still feel the need to keep their sexual preferences secret.

Isn't that sad, that for a choice as simple as, "Do you take your coffee with or without creme" makes a difference how you live your professional life. Even so, as far as military service, Israel is still decades ahead of the United States. In fact, the only major countires who still do not allow gays to openly serve are: most Arab countries, China, North Korea, Iran, Russia and THE UNITED STATES!!!! They say you know a lot about someone by the company they keep. Talk amongst yourselves.

Yep! Such lovely and RIDICULOUS company we keep . . . oppressive, backward-thinking countries think just like us! Gee, you don't think the U.S. is at all "backward thinking," do ya?

Why of course we're not backward Snark.....the only thing keeping us from burning those silly liberals is the need to stoke our BBQs on Memorial Day when we should actually be out paying homage to the graves of those who gave their lives so we could BBQ on Memorial Day! Praise Jesus and pass the apple pie!
