Now for something completely different...

In a nod to Miss Val, I thought I'd drop in this little gem from Youtube. Although I've never seen the film--though hear it's quite excellent--I believe this is the opening of Love, Honor and Obey. The song is British crooner Tony Christie's Avenues and Alleyways and some of you may remember it as the opening and closing theme of a show from the 70s called The Protectors starring Robert Vaughn, Nyree Dawn Porter and one of my earliest crushes, the late Tony Anholt. (Whom some will remember as the dashing Tony Verdeshi in Space: 1999.)

Well, if you watch the video, you may see some familiar faces; Jude Law of course, who just a few years ago was a face you saw whenever you opened a magazine or turned on TV; the adorable Johnny Lee Miller who is starring in the new TV show, Eli Stone; and Sean Pertwee, the dashing son of late actor Jon Pertwee who once portrayed Dr. Who. If anyone's seen this film, please let me know, as I can't find it in any video stores around here and was thinking of simply ordering the DVD...but would like to make sure it's worth owning. Thanks...

Jon Pertwee was the Third Doctor. Doctor Who is awesome. Although my favorites are still Tom Baker and Patrick Troughton who also starred in the original Omen movies as the Priest. Oh yes watched Monty Python Meaning of Life today, hilarious movie, and Uncle Gunga, I'm currently watching the original George Romero Dead Movies which you said I should about 5 Years ago i Believe. Thanks for the reccomendation.

Mike, I'm impressed. I didn't think many young people were still fans of Dr. Who. I agree, Tom Baker was the best...of course I might be biased, because he was the first Dr. Who I started watching in the early 80s. For years I thought Tom Baker was the brother of George Baker, who played--flawlessly I may add--the perverted Emperor Tiberius in Masterpiece Theatre's rendition of Robert Graves' I Cladius, which I highly recommend everyone see at least...if for know other reason that John Hurt's (Alien, Elephant Man) over-the-top performance as the mad Emperor Caligula! Alas, I was mistaken...the two are not related. Dear Tom Baker is 74 years old...hard to imagine, though I guess I'm still stuck in the 1980s!

What founts of knowledge you all are!

And sorry to have to state another distant connection story, but Jude Law went to the last school I had a fulltime permanent teaching post in. He's on record as saying he hated it and the Drama department was useless.

All the rival school up the road could claim, though, was that Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, went there!

Val,

The UK sounds like such an interesting place!!! I will have to visit someday...when the dollar's worth anything again, though. Did you hear, there are stores in New York City actually accepting EUROS as regular currency. America's on the decline and despite what the Bible beaters say, it was not gay marriage or abortion that did it, but rather their own prejudice, stupidity and need to give George W. Bush ANOTHER four years to totally trash what was left of the country after his first 4 disasterous years!!!

God help us all!

Gosh, the Euro as regular currency! Next thing you know, it'll replace the petro-dollar. Oh wait - wasn't that what Saddam wanted to do, and Michael Morse's suggestion for the real reason behind the Iraq war? Well, Dubya, that worked out well, didn't it? And now Iran's threatening it, so why not have ANOTHER war for yet more spurious reasons?

I don't suppose it's any consolation that we don't accept the Euro as "regular currency" in Britain.

Val,

I'm not a currency snob anymore than I am one of these idiots that thinks Americans only need to speak English. (I speak German and a little Russian, by the way) What I was saying is that at one time the dollar was the most recognized, bartered with and sought after currency and now there are places in the world that don't even want it anymore...but it is telling that under Chimpy and the 'wars for oil' not only has the price of it gone up, but the war to control it has brought our currency down to unimaginable levels. I'm not upset to see us accepting other currency if we were doing so because it was the tactful and respectful thing to do, but lamenting it because we're doing it because our own money is worth shit now. Essentially, while Europeans may gloat about this being our comeuppence, as it were--and to an extent I agree--put yourself in our shoes and imagine the British Pound turning into the old Rubel tight before your eyes!

As someone who loves to travel overseas, it's a very depressing development for me, but I'm hardly an "U.S. Dollars or nothing at all" type.

Gunga and I have been talking about planning a trip to London. Wanna join us, Betty? Val, are you at all close to London?

I would love to go to London sometime. This year, though, Bob and I are going to Spain.
