Hey Snark,

I'm actually not sure where I first heard of Pink Flamingos, but I'm pretty sure it was from Siskel & Ebert! (I know that's where I heard of Nosferatu from)In any case, I know I first saw it at a high school friend of mine's house--while his parents were out of town--in the early 80's. They were a well-to-do family that actually had a BETAMAX player!!! You could actually rent the film then, too. Needless to say, I showed it and Caligula and Faces of Death to him, his siblings and several friends and oddly enough, we are still good friends to this day!!! I must tell you about this in more detail at Granville Manor some time. Without exception, none of them can hear "How Much is that Doggy in the Window" the same way since!

I also heard of "Taxi Zum Klo" from Siskel & Ebert as well, proving that they were indeed ahead of their times! Where else in America, back in the day, would you have heard of such films?

Truly. Siskel and Ebert, for all the play on their "can't stand each other" personas, made a great team of film analysts. I call them film analysts as opposed to movie reviewers or even "film critics," because I always felt they were a cut above. And they were OFTEN ahead of their time. Ahhhhh, Caligula. Another film enjoyed in my misspent youth. LOL. The first time I saw Pink Flamingos was at Tut's Bar on Belmont. Edith Massey (the egg lady) was there, live and in person. I still have her signed autograph. Hee. I think that was in 1980. And I think I was doing blotter that night . . . unlike you military types, we college loons had very little self restraint.
