Another Fine Fall Day
It is just glorious out today. Caught these leaves in the trees low enough to miss the frosts and yet dazzling in the sunshine.

The Senate hearing on "Dont Ask, Dont Tell" repeal just got postponed indefinitely. This, just days after a House committee delayed the mark up of ENDA. But the Democrats promised that ENDA would be passed this year - 40 days left! - and DADT repealed next spring. Don't hold your breath.

Something Funny
Getting intense here. It wants me to get rid of a couch. I don't want to get rid of the couch. It's one that Kerry reupholstered. He claims it has bugs. None found except one dead one six months ago. Probably from it's days in storage. It's rent is cheaper because my logic was I had a lot of stuff. If it want's to pop for storage fees that's OK with me. Otherwise it stays.

The Roommate's Idea of Clean
About 3 or 4 weeks ago the roommate sent me a blistering epistle to my work email.
I had left a pot in the rack or the sink or something and he went all postal on me demanding a meeting, stating that to consider the kitchen clean, the counters should be cleared and wiped, pot's washed and put away and ready for the next guy blah blah blah...
For all intents and purposes I have stopped using the kitchen when he is home. In fact, I retreat to my room until he heads off to work. Thank God he works mostly nights.
Cold war ensues.
Well anyway, his idea of wiped is to rearrange the grease. Here's how I found the stove today.

OUR DEAR WINDY CITY - MORE EXPENSIVE THAN EVER!
A good friend of mine recently moved from Cleveland, Ohio to Columbus. It was out of necessity. The job market is much better in Columbus. It was a hard decision for him to make. He loved the more "urban" feel of Cleveland, but Columbus offered greater opportunities on the job front. Granted, even though it is larger than Cleveland, it feels more like a giant suburb. It is uber clean. But the skyline pales in comparison to Cleveland's. I am now starting to ask myself the same question: would I be better off relocating to another city than staying here in The City of Big Shoulders? The shoulders seem to be sagging a bit lately. Taxes are outrageous, and, as it turns out, the overall cost of living here is up, Up, UP!
Yes, dear friends, Chicago now ranks as the seventh most expensive city in the U.S. and the fiftieth most expensive city in the world. And it happened quite quickly. Last year, Chicago was the 84th most expensive city in the world. This is all according to the London office of Mercer, an American human resources consulting company. The worldwide figures are posted here. U.S. figures are posted here.
Looks like we pay a pretty high price to live in a city riddled with corruption, high unemployment, police brutality, and uber-high taxes. Or maybe I'm just getting bitter in my old age. Heh-heh.
