I love West Side Story, but I don't like it sung by opera singers. Kiri has such a strong voice (too strong for Carreras) - she even used to look too athletic for the average Verdi heroine who had to die of consumption!
I once saw her in the audience at a performance at the Royal Opera's rival, English National Opera. She had NO dress sense - a vile green ensemble with pantaloons instead of a skirt.
