To quote Irving Berlin:
"Oh I wish and wish and wish again,
That I was back home there in Michigan..."
Republicans did this numerous times in Michigan to Dems, and once, and threw the primary to pre-reformed bigot George Wallace and we all know how that went:
Kos:
In 1972, Republican voters in Michigan decided to make a little mischief, crossing over to vote in the open Democratic primary and voting for segregationist Democrat George Wallace, seriously embarrassing the state's Democrats. In fact, a third of the voters (PDF) in the Democratic primary were Republican crossover votes. In 1988, Republican voters again crossed over, helping Jesse Jackson win the Democratic primary, helping rack up big margins for Jackson in Republican precincts. (Michigan Republicans can clearly be counted on to practice the worst of racial politics.) In 1998, Republicans helped Jack Kevorkian's lawyer -- quack Geoffrey Feiger -- win his Democratic primary, thus guaranteeing their hold on the governor's mansion that year.
I love a bit of turnabout, just rewards, taste of their own medicine, don't you?

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!!! Boston_Betty is slung up at home, confined to her sickbed, don't you know, but I am absolutely on pins and needles, not knowing which way this election in Michigan will go.
I've also heard about this idea of Markos on Daily Kos to get Dems to vote for Mitt to keep him in the race. Right now, I think that's the most dangerous thing we can do! Don't underestimate Mitt Flopney...he is the favored candidate of not only the Bush family, but also corporate America and if he makes it to the end, he may well have enough delegates to be given the nomination. As much as I destest this man, I don't doubt for a minute that redneck America wouldn't bite their tongues about the Mormon thing and vote for this man over Hillary Clinton!
We're playing a dangerous game here if we believe that if he's left standing, Mitt Romney would be easy to beat! We thought we had a sure win in 2004, too, didn't we?
Hopefully, Mitt Romney will be gone and the GOP candidate left standing will be smart enough not to put this jerk on the ticket as a VP!
Oh yes...I'm also firmly of the belief that should he get the nomination, then in a nod to his Bush family benefactors, will will nominate none other than Jeb Bush for his VP. That alone should be enough McCain repeats primary history and takes Michigan again.
Well, we'll soon know.
Why don't I get a vote? It affects us over here as much as you over there!
I'd love to give you a vote, Val...lord knows, I'm sure you know more about our candidates and political system than the average American idiot here that votes according to whom his/her pastor tells em to vote for!!!!!
Val - you had your King George III (and of course we have our King George II but that's another story) that forced us out.
History otherwise, we might very well be voting in this thing together.
BB, And what if McCain picks either Mitt or Jeb as running mate... McCain is so veeeerrryyyy old! Much too scary!
I'm still betting on 45 states at least going democrat in the general election. The republicans are quite despised. We're spiraling out of control into a recession. Afghanistan (you know, the country that attacked us) is heating up> and the Great and Glorious Surge of mesopotamia in Iraq is starting to show signs of being the Great and Glorious Failure that it really is.
Who will be so stooopid as to vote Retard this year?
"Who will be so stooopid as to vote Retard this year?"
Never underestimate the base stupidity of your countrymen, Dean. An anti-gay initiative or two in a vital state and the wing nuts will spill out in droves to protect 'family values.' I have said in the past though, that it will really take the economy going down the shitter before these idiots realize what they were really electing in GWB. Of course...you'll mange to have a few barking heads blame this on the Dem Congress..and enough idiots may buy it. It's sad to say, but I've lost all faith in the decision making process in this country!
Like me, Betty, you have very little faith in the brain power of the "masses of asses," an unfortunate, detestable breed of especially shitty humanity found largely within the borders of the United States . . . or bartending at the Anvil on certain morning shifts . . . heh-heh.
By the way, feel better soon, Betty!
Attention Delicious On Toast!!! Any comments?

"Heh-Heh", indeed!
Wouldn't it be wonderful if 'compromising' pictures of Mittens and our morning shift friend were uncovered? The nation would let out a collective heave, but it would be so funny!
Thank you for the well wishes, too, Snark.
:)
That man is a disgrace to right wingers every where. Kennedy, gun control how can he call himself right wing
I echo what my neighbor Snark says about the masses... this is why I don't get my leathers in a bundle over the low voting rate in the U.S. If you don't care enough to know who the president of Pakistan is, whether martial law is still in effect there... I'd rather you not vote! Oh wait, that wasn't a voter, that was the candidate Rev. Huck... my bad! ;>
I thought a lot of them of them went over and voted for Mr. Black Helicopter & KKK money.
Its a shame more didn't go for McCain. While I tend to prefer Rudy for a lot of reasons, McCain's the least knee jerk, least partisan candidate for Pres I've seen in my 30+ years of following politics, and it sure would be nice to have a Pres who isn't just folksy or inspiring speeches about unity and non-partisanship, and has actually done something about it. Any Repub who had the stones to cosponsor a bill with TD and DF... wow... its no wonder he held up in prison camp!
McCain/Lieberman '08- now that would be sweet
Oh, and Right Mike- dittos. Fred T. really is the only "real deal" conservative in the race. Which is not to say I support him, since I'm more a real deal Jeffersonian Liberal/Libertarian, but if you look the purity checklist, he's got a tick in every box.
I'd rather a flawed but courageous leader who can move us beyond the red/blue state divide and who can take a stand (or even a dump for that matter) without checking the polls first, which is why I'm favourably disposed towards the "heretics" Paul McC and Rudy G
Freddie should have kept his job on Law & Order . . .
Something about "keeping your day jobs",

Better yet, Betty, just hope Ms. Fee gets on top and crushes/smothers poor Mittens with all those globules of cellulite that smell like the grease trap under Standee's . . . heh-heh-heh . . . ohhhh, to imagine those thunderous thighs around Mittens' geeky little neck . . .
Cellulite? Greas trap!? Arrrrgggh!!! Lord o' mercy, what a visual! I think my mind's eye just fell out!
By the way, Snark, Gunga...it was nice to see you both tonight and hang out for awhile. I hate being confined to the house and bed rest, you know!
Yes, Betty. "Snark," . . . it does a body goooooooooood. ;>)
Hi Mike,
Welcome back! Have you, by any chance, looked into Norwich University's summer program for high schoolers? I've heard only good things about it.
Peace
